DnD 5E - if you've fucked up and have nowhere to go you can always SEIZE THE MANDATE OF HEAVEN

The gods have watched over this world since this world was born. As long as we can remember, generations stretching back, years without count.

They are wise, grand, glorious and just. They are creatures who sprang fully forged from the ether, given form by mortal minds, here to guide us through our lives.

Do not defy the gods. Do not question the gods. They hold our world in their hands.

(They are inscrutable and cryptic, capricious and merciless. To challenge them in combat, to topple them alone, would be suicide and folly.

But there is more than one way to kill a god.)

You are the cursed, the forsaken, already scorched by the power of the divine. There is nothing left for you.

So there's nowhere to go but up.

The setting:
Technology wise, your standard DnD fare! Character-wise, literally anything. Do you want to play something from the monster manual? Sure let's work it out. If it's got a statblock I can finagle into a reasonable PC sheet, we'll do it.

What I need from you:
Name/plurk name:
Character concept:
The nature of your curse: This is an all-original pantheon, so feel free to elaborate on which god exactly did this to you. You don't have to name them or anything, I can do that fine, but if you've got your heart set on a particular thematic then I will not deny you.
Magic item to start with: I expect you to break my puzzles over your knee so I'm giving you a head start. One item to start with of your choice. I reserve the right to veto anything that's a bit too multipurpose OP, be creative.

Character Concept: -Skeleton Bard who uses their own limbs as instruments and plays skeleton pranks, like replacing the wizard's staff with a skeleton leg
-Skeleton Paladin who made an oath to get revenge on something a god did and draws power from some sort of chaos entity
-Skeleton Monk who sought to harness the power of chi due to their lack of body
-Skeleton Sorcerer that was mysteriously granted the powers of magic which brought them to life and now seeks to understand what it means to truly be alive
Nature of your curse: ...well, the Paladin's curse probably involves them actually BEING a skeleton, but I'll have to think on the others?
Magic item to start with: Bard- enchanted hat which allows them to freely disassemble and reassemble their body
Paladin- ???
Monk- ???
Sorcerer- Maybe like instead of a human skull, they have a magical beast skull and that's part of why they're magical
Availability WHO KNOWS WHAT THE FUTURE WILL HOLD!!! But... probably not Tuesday or Thursday unless we can be done by like 11 PM EST (New York time)
Anything else you want to tell me: Expect a lot of really bad skeleton humor

Character concept: Pennyrile, a tiefling con-artist turned legitimate private investigator. ACE DETECTIVE. (Rogue, Inquisitive sub-class)
The nature of your curse: During her career as a con-artist, Pennyrile worked with a number of other shady individuals on a big heist of a holy artifact. It succeeded, and the god who was associated with said artifact was not happy. The entire group was cursed so that lingering in one place would cause bad things to begin to happen. It usually starts with minor distrust, moving on to events occuring in such a way to lay blame at the feet of the cursed. That's usually the sign to move on, but staying and forcing the issue will cause even worse things to happen. There's an intrinsic understanding, though, that the curse will lessen the less people cursed there are... meaning that those of the group particularly fed up will start to look into taking out their former heist compatriots.
Magic item to start with: Cape of the Mountebank
Availability: Depends on what games are still running when this starts. Currently Mondays are opening up soon, and there'll be good times on Saturday. If it's far out though there'll be more days open. In general though, Mon-Fri are evening for US Eastern time though.

Character concept: SOLIMAR: blind cleric, pacifist, used to be a torturer for a dangerous cult
AMELIA: a warlock getting deeper and deeper into questionable magics and also paranoia and self-hatred in an effort to reverse a curse on her brother
NARAVELIA: a ranger with missing fingers that paid a terrible price to resurrect her child
OSTARA: good boys and girls get fresh meat and tree branches brought to them by the easter ghoul
ARTHAS AVENANT (and Gale): an angry fucking sword that wants to avenge its forger's death and also a friendly but dim knight who's been suckered into wielding it.
NYELV: bard. legend has it the god of learning and scholars cut his own tongue out as a payment for drinking from a pool of infinite knowledge. the tongue, forgotten, sank into the pool and absorbed things for a bajillion years. i'm playing as that tongue.

The nature of your curse: Solimar's sight was taken after seeing something terrible about the nature of the god she worshipped, and was furthermore prevented from ever telling anyone what she saw or warning them. She doesn't follow them any more, needless to say.
Amelia and her brother were both made undead, but Amelia was able to recover her mind somehow. Her brother is a nearly-mindless beast that she considers her responsibility.
Naravelia prayed to her god to resurrect her infant daughter, promising to perform a bloody act of betrayal in exchange. The child came back horribly wrong, and not only never ages, but also needs to be fed blood. Also she framed someone, and to do so she cut off the two fingers that let her draw a bow.
Ostara is almost completely animalistic, but at least it's a nice animal? She had almost all of her memory burned out and was raised by giant rabbits in the aftermath.
Avenant is a blade who is haunted by the ghost of the man that forged it. He was struck down for trying to make a weapon that could kill a god. Gale is the guy that found the sword, basically by accident.
NYELV IS JUST PISSED THAT HE GOT ABANDONED AND CUT AWAY BY THE GOD HE CAME FROM.
Availability: i can do Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, and all afternoons
Magic item to start with: idk it depends on who i go with tbh
Anything else you want to tell me: i've played ten or so sessions but i'm still forgetty when it comes to things like what a DC is and what hit dice are and so forth

Name/plurk name: Foxfire, [Bad username or unknown identity: MadarFoxfire=plurk.com]
Character concept: Current druid, former god of the wild hunt, reborn in the body of a mortal being and attempting to bring back their murder cult. It's less outright evil than you'd expect from a murder cult, they do absolutely murder people but they are very much about worthy prey and not preying on the weak and helpless WHICH LEADS TO THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF OUR HERO'S LONG LIFE:

The nature of your curse: Forced into a weak human body by the moon god, for the crime of killing and eating the moon god. Apparently they can do some top tier reincarnation bullshit on the right moon phase so it didn't stick. Technically not exactly cannibalism, she was previously a massive nightmare wolf. Due to the reverse werewolf aesthetic I'm going for, once wildshape is a thing she won't be able to do it on full moons.

Magic item to start with: A faded green ribbon. She can see through the eyes of any animal that's wearing it.

Availability: I'm free all summer but when September hits it will be 7pm-midnight EST Mon-Thur, and just about any time weekends.
Anything else you want to tell me: I want to live my Dungeon Meshi dreams and eat so many monsters

Character concept: A ranger who lives alone in the forest due to being a weird, bitter old recluse and also a werewolf. Uses bows and rangery stuff because she's trying to pass for human and hates transforming. I have some plot hooks in mind for this one because I'm always a slut for Reveals.

The nature of your curse: Being a werewolf. She got cursed after killing another hunter who was under the protection of a panther-headed hunting god for some ritual purposes. She had a good reason.

Magic item to start with: I don't know actually!

Availability: I don't know which games will be running when this does, but assuming Valor Corps wraps up before then and I don't jump into anything new that conflicts with these... I'm free on Saturdays starting at around 7 PM EST, and starting at 10 PM EST Monday through Thursday.

Anything else you want to tell me: I have no idea what I'm doing!

Name/plurk name: Heron/[plurk.com profile] copperprism
Character concept: Cleric whose inner sense of right and wrong took precedence over gods, and which was strong enough to give them power. The gods took exception to this.

The nature of your curse: The gods as a whole (aside from any who wouldn't care) decided that a cleric who didn't want anything to do with them and who nonetheless discovered great power from their own internal moral code was too dangerous. They decided to curse (character) with the inability to heal themself, a susceptibility to injury both physical and mental, a proneness to corruption. (meaning, potentially, all of the above)

Magic item to start with: Protection against a certain number/amount of status effects (aka things that affect the suggested weaknesses) that breaks after a certain number of uses. ("certain" = to be decided by gm)
Availability: Currently? ANYtime. Will update if that changes.
Anything else you want to tell me: I love this game idea.

Character concept: An aasimar who actually used to be a celestial but was unwilling to keep quiet about the hypocrisies of the God they served, and was thus cast down into the mortal realm for their "rebellion." While they wandered the earth, they discovered the shrine of a forgotten, benevolent monster god who was betrayed and cast from power so the "evil" gods could rule and provide the "good" gods with monsters to frighten mortals into maintaining their faith. Realizing they have a common enemy, they forge an oath to work together to bring down the corrupt God. (This means either a cleric or a warlock.)
The nature of your curse: Cast down and made mortal (and fallen, despite not explicitly being evil). Furthermore, they have been made ultra sensitive to the sun and must constantly wear clothing covering their entire body not to conceal their celestial nature, but to keep from burning.
Magic item to start with: An earring that allows them to communicate with any intelligent monster who originates from the material plane.
Availability: Probably anytime but Tuesday nights, bearing in mind I'm going to be travelling a lot next year
Anything else you want to tell me: i am NOT playing the dumb muscle this time i need a clever character

Character concept: Sentient magical weapon, possessing a 'dead' body.
(Uses the abilities and mechanics of a Half-Elven Pact of the Hexblade Warlock)
The Forge God is a fickle entity, striving for perfection amongst their creations yet never able to decide on what perfection actually is. Whatever magical items they create that do not make the cut are disposed of like trash, and this is exactly what happened to this particular magic weapon. A 'failed' attempt at a blade that could raise the dead, this young entity was fortunate enough to be discarded upon a recent battlefield within the mortal realm. Bonding it's soul to the nearest lifeless corpse, they now take their first steps within this new world, a peculiar blend of innocent wonder and morbid curiosity pushing them to discover their purpose, haunted by their supposed failures as a weapon of the divine.

The curse: The weapon is cursed by its own artificially-created soul, built only to destroy and consume the blood and spirit of other creatures. Its sentience, combined with a body that allows it truly interface with the world around it, grants them the self-awareness of their predicament, and the constant looming knowledge that they may very well not be nearly as free and 'alive' as they believe themselves to be.
Furthermore, their true nature as nothing more than a magically-created soul means that anti-arcana such as the Dispel Magic spell can immediately render them unconscious, if not outright leaving them in a life-threatening condition if said anti-arcana is strong enough. At the bare minimum, the connection between themselves and their current vessel will be severed, effectively inducing paralysis on the body until they can re-establish themselves.

Magic item to start with: Themselves - if the current body is killed or otherwise rendered unable to house a soul, their true form manifests adjacent to it: A greatsword forged from a strange silver-like material, pitch-black runes etched into the blade on either side. They can be freely wielded like any other weapon, but require proper resurrection or similar methods to be brought back into a body, provided there is one present during the process. Whether or not they can cast spells or use other abilities whilst in their true form is up to DM discretion.

Availability: Evenings (GMT) on most days, but weekends are preferred.

Anything else you want to tell me: Do not hesitate to use Dreamwidth or Plurk to ask me any further questions. Nothing written in this application is final, and I am more than open to any and all suggestions and/or changes that need to be made to the character, their curse, or their magical item. This includes picking an outright different character, if necessary.
